Sacrifices
The Cost Of Achievement
We all know a definite amount of work over a consistent period of time is necessary to achieve any goal.
As much as we want, we can’t do everything. But we can achieve anything we commit to for a long enough time.
There is a fine line between one who tries everything at the same time and one who focusses on one thing.
It is the sacrifices made in order to achieve the high standards we set for ourselves.
Sacrifices are the cost of achievement. They are hard to make, often coming with doubt, backlash from others and a sense of fear. But if we do not make the required amount of sacrifices, we are performing self sabotage , often leading to burn out.
A focused man with a single mission will beat a man with ten different ones every single time.
Sure we may aspire to do some things and be like some people. But we also want to take into account the cost that comes with taking on these aspirations (which is often the cost of not making it in any endeavour).
We perform sacrifices for every season of our lives, and what we pay is what we get. Not less and most definitely not more.
We are sabotaging ourselves by forming the illusion that we are capable of doing five things at once and being successful at all of them.
How I Understood This
I have disillusioned myself by fooling myself that I can achieve 5 aspirations in the short span of 2 months.
I have come to realize that even if I focus on two things, life will be hard. And trying to do 5 things ensured I didn’t honour a single one.
Making money, hanging out with friends, working on projects, taking classes for some cash on the side, trying to get good grades - all these things have led to me losing in every single one of these aspirations.
In my attempt to articulate the problem, I have come to understand that a lack of sacrifices was the cause to my losses. It was not because I had too little, rather it was because I had too much.
The compulsion for achievement is lustful, especially when we get a taste of it after a considerable amount of hard work and dedication.
Our sincerity gets us achievements, but only when it is directed to one specific mission, one purpose for a definite period of time.
To reach those relentless ideals, we must direct our limited resources to that one point.
Action Steps Moving Forward
Sacrifices, being as painful as they are, are crucial for us to win in life. Every time we aspire to do something, we must look within and understand the consequences of taking on such goals.
The most successful people too, end their lives with a list of things they always wanted to do. (Its just a bit shorter than the ones who don’t even try).
Devote yourself to two key missions for a set season of your life, and reap the benefits of that season with your sincerity, dedication and hard work directed at as little things possible.
Concentration of these attributes - sincerity, hard work and dedication - will be worth way more than you can ever fathom.
